How do I know whether therapy is right for me?

Many people wonder this before seeking support. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Some people seek therapy because they are experiencing anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties or overwhelming emotions. Others come because they feel stuck, disconnected from themselves, or are repeating patterns they would like to understand and change.

Therapy offers a space to pause, reflect, make sense of your experiences and explore new ways of responding to life's challenges.

What happens when I first contact the clinic?

We will usually arrange a brief introductory conversation to understand what brings you to therapy and answer any initial questions you may have. We will then recommend a clinician whose experience and therapeutic style best match your needs and goals.

Finding the right therapeutic relationship matters, and we take care to ensure a thoughtful matching process.

What happens in the assessment session?

The assessment is the beginning of our work together. During this session we explore your current difficulties, your personal history, important relationships, previous experiences, strengths and goals.

The purpose of the assessment is not simply to gather information but to begin developing a shared understanding of your difficulties and what may help moving forward. At the end of the assessment, we will discuss recommendations and agree a treatment plan together.

There is no obligation to continue therapy after the assessment if you decide it is not right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single answer to this question because every person arrives with different needs, goals and life circumstances.

Some people benefit from a small number of focused sessions addressing a specific issue. Others seek a deeper and longer-term exploration of longstanding patterns, relationships or trauma.

We will regularly review progress together and discuss what feels most helpful for you.

How often do sessions take place?

For most people, weekly sessions provide the consistency needed to build a strong therapeutic relationship and maintain momentum in therapy.

However, we recognise that different circumstances require flexibility and will discuss frequency with you individually.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. We offer both online and in-person appointments.

Research consistently demonstrates that online therapy can be as effective as face-to-face therapy for many psychological difficulties. Online therapy also offers flexibility and allows people to access specialist support regardless of geographical location.

Is therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is fundamental to our work.

Everything discussed in therapy remains confidential except in rare circumstances where there are serious concerns regarding your safety or the safety of another person. Wherever possible, we would discuss this with you before sharing any information.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Most people self-refer directly to our clinic.

If you intend to use private health insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral or authorisation number before treatment begins. We recommend checking directly with your provider.

Can I use private health insurance?

Many of our clinicians are registered with major private health insurers. Please let us know if you intend to use health insurance when making contact and we will advise regarding authorisation procedures and clinician availability.

What types of therapy do you offer?

Our clinicians draw upon a range of evidence-based psychological approaches including:
• Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT)
• EMDR
• Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Attachment-based approaches
• Psychodynamic approaches
• Humanistic and relational therapies
• Internal Family Systems-informed work (IFS)

Rather than applying one approach to everyone, we tailor therapy to the individual and their specific needs.

Do you provide ADHD and Autism assessments?

Yes.

We offer comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments for both adults and young people. Our assessments are neurodiversity-affirming, evidence-based and designed not only to provide diagnostic clarity but also to support greater self-understanding and practical recommendations for everyday life.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations or changes to appointments.

Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice are usually charged at the full session fee because it is rarely possible to offer the appointment to another client at short notice.

Clinical Supervision

We offer reflective, supportive and evidence-based clinical supervision for psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and trainees.

Supervision is much more than case discussion. It is a dedicated space to think, reflect, learn and grow as a practitioner. It allows clinicians to step back from the intensity of therapeutic work, explore complex clinical situations and consider the emotional impact of the work they undertake.

Our supervision approach is collaborative, relational and tailored to your individual stage of professional development. Whether you are seeking support with complex trauma work, developing confidence in a specific therapeutic model, navigating ethical dilemmas or reflecting on the therapeutic relationship, we aim to provide a safe and containing environment in which meaningful learning can occur.
